Hello, my name is Jenny Hustad. I was born in Jefferson City, Tennessee. I moved to Bristol Virginia in 1970 to begin my teaching career. I have taught kindergarten at Stonewall Jackson Elementary for the past 38 year and was selected as the 2007 Rotary Outstanding Teacher of the Year for Bristol Virginia. This honor was a very humbling experience for me. I have always loved my job and this award was the “icing on the cake”! My goal is to continue teaching until my health requires me to retire, which I hope will be several years from now.
I am married to my best friend and “soul mate”, Perry. We have been married for 36 years and have two grown sons. Our oldest son, Phillip and his wife, Alicia, live in Houston, Texas with Auzzie, the “grand-dog” and Bella and Mitchel the “grand-cats”. Our youngest son, Jon and his wife Amanda, are building a home in Bristol Tennessee, and have blessed me with my only grandson, Nate. Nate was in Mrs. Wheeler’s kindergarten class this past year. I feel very fortunate to have been one of his teachers. I enjoyed watching him grow physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally.
I enjoy working in my flower gardens, reading for pleasure and spending time with my grandson. I also enjoy learning new ways to incoporate technology into my classroom. I have been involved in summer technology academies for the last six years. I am always looking for ways to improve my classroom and for new ways of teaching the children in my class.
